The training session for the 1000 km Hockenheim race as part of the 2018 German Endurance Cup (DLC) on Easter Saturday was anything but good. A tragic accident on the track cast a shadow over the action and caused the entire training session to be cancelled. For us, that meant a swift end to our training laps, as we only had five laps under our belt. This meant we could only start the race from 26th place.
Unfortunately, the race didn’t go to plan either. A technical defect in the exhaust system of our BMW S 1000 RR resulted in our first unscheduled pit stop after just 30 minutes. This cost us around 20 minutes and meant that we dropped down to eighth place and were trailing just under eleven laps behind the next rider in seventh place.
We then steadily grew back into the race and were able to gain plenty of ground. Fate then dealt us another blow in the form of a fall after around three and a half hours. Fortunately, the driver was unscathed and managed to bring the 1000 into the pits. Once the damage from the fall was fixed, we managed to drive around the track consistently and, despite everything, finished in a reasonable fifth place.
We would like to specifically thank the entire team, our sponsors and our partners, as well as all of our friends and visitors for the superb support and amazing atmosphere – we’re already looking forward to the next race!
