The varied product line-up is enormous. You can assume that there are three types of seats for popular models: the standard height, a lower and a higher version. Added to which are the design and colour variants, heated seats and the passenger versions.

Why do they go to such lengths? „Because this is the only way of meeting the individual ergonomic needs and requirements of riders and passengers“, explains Wunderlich Managing Director Felix Wunderlich. For the past seven years, he has been responsible, among other things, for product development and really understands

what he’s talking about. „At Wunderlich we use the ergonomics triangle to define the key touch points between the rider and motorcycle. This triangle is formed by the seat, the handlebar grips and the footrests. The key determinant factor is the seat, which, on the one hand, must be comfortable, yet, at the same time, must form a close, agile connection with the motorcycle“, he adds.

Wunderlich manufactures the seats with a characteristic, ergonomic 3-D contour that fuses the rider with their motorcycle. The shape and inclination of the special Wunderlich seat core promote the ergonomically beneficial natural posture of the pelvis and reduce the pressure on the sensitive coccyx. They integrate the rider with the motorcycle. Felix Wunderlich: „This way, riding the motorcycle is simply relaxed, fatigue-free and, at the same time, active. And the whole thing has another aspect that shouldn’t be underestimated. Anyone that is sitting cramped will riding loses focus on the road. For that reason there is no doubt that a relaxed seating position enhances passive safety. We tailor these main product characteristics to the particular purpose, as the requirements

for a seat for a BMW S 1000 RR will be very different from those on a touring Enduro like a GS or Pan America. But what is always true is that the criteria we apply to our rider seats are also used on our passenger seats. This applies to the special contour requirements, but also to the properties of the upholstery materials and their finish, which, for instance, largely determine the grip and feedback of the seat. A few years ago we set new standards with ThermoPro . Compared with conventional upholstery material, the temperature of the seats fitted with ThermoPro upholstery is up to 25°C lower in bright summer sunshine. We use special material to achieve this, which reflects the sun’s infrared rays and effectively reduces heat input. Besides the instantly notable gain in comfort, the technology also improves the durability and endurance of our AKTIVKOMFORT seats.

As for the workmanship, we weld all seams and also glue the upholstery to the seat core to match the contours. This finish ensures our seats are waterproof to provide a precise, form-fit, tight connection to the motorcycle“, adds Felix Wunderlich. „Two points are particularly important to us: industrial processes cannot manufacture all these criteria. That’s why we work together with an upholsterer in Bavaria that manufactures each and every one of our AKTIVKOMFORT seats as part of a handcrafted upholstery process. Another point is what we at Wunderlich understand by integrated design, namely characteristic design that is, however, geared formally and also in terms of colour to the design idiom of the particular motorbike“.
