In the event that the motorcycle falls or crashes, the axle protection pads ensure that the front fork, the wheel axle and the brake system are effectively protected against damage.

The protective pads distance these components during bouncing or sliding contact with the floor or road and thus reduce or avoid costly damage to the motorcycle. In addition to the choice of material, we have also integrated two significant, specific properties into the construction and tested these in racing, these being the damping and abrasion resistance that significantly increases in the slide phase.

The damping: The first positive feature we should mention is the damping, which can partially or fully capture and absorb part of the impact energy where impacting forces occur.

Abrasion resistance: The second positive characteristic is the abrasion resistance, which owing the component geometry increases from the outside in due to the enlargement of the effective slide area. This means that our axle protection pad only offers a low level of frictional resistance on light contact, but shortens the time and area of the grinding phase, such as when grinding along the road surface for a longer period. This means that in a crash with the axle protection pad, the time in which the motorcycle slides and the slide path itself are both reduced.

The ABS sensor for the front wheel sits very exposed and unprotected between the radial brake caliper and axle of the front wheel. It is a sensitive component that together with the ABS rim and ABS controller prevents the front wheel brake from being blocked and the rider from losing control of the motorcycle. The oxygen sensors, which supply important parameters for controlling the engine, cannot be repaired in the event of damage or destruction, only replaced. That’s why it is recommended that the sensors and their function be effectively protected.

The oxygen sensors relay important parameters from the exhaust system and the engine control unit. The engine control unit on the other hand in turn uses this information and additional parameters (e.g. load status, throttle grip placement, camshaft phasing) to control the fuel inject (mix composition) and ignition time. Damage to the oxygen sensors or their signal cables can lead to faulty parameters. Faulty parameters in turn lead to faulty engine control signals, which can negatively impact the performance and efficiency or function of the engine. The consequences of ineffective fuel combustion include performance issues, engine problems, higher fuel consumption and increased pollutant emissions due to the less than optimum combustion. All issues that should be avoided.

Our robust, effect oxygen sensor guard covers each of the vulnerable oxygen sensors screwed into the two exhaust manifolds as well as the attached cables, and provides optimum mechanical protection for both sensors. It consists of anodised aluminium with a sheet thickness of 1.5 mm. In an off-road passage, a kicked-up stone can quickly mean an expensive end for the headlight. Especially true when dealing with the latest technology with integrated intelligent features, as in the case of an LED or LED Matrix headlight. The Wunderlich Headlight Guard with high-quality Snaploc® quick-release closures thus reduces the risk of immediate damage to the high-quality headlight technology from stone impacts, other foreign objects, and branches. It can be easily removed for rides on public roads or for cleaning purposes with a simple twist of the hand.

In an emergency, it protects the tank and the frame in the area of the steering head from major damage in the event of a falling over, crash or accident. More importantly, it also protects your hands and arms from being trapped. We are talking about the steering stop. An often small, inconspicuous metal block that determines the maximum angle of the steering head. Actually a sensible thing. If there were not one serious point: the welded or forged, often undersized stops are often bent or even torn off when force impacts, which inevitably results in the loss of the operating licence because the frame loses its approval. This is because the inconspicuous component is relevant for the main inspection. 

Our energy-absorbing steering stop limiter provides a solution.

The original steering stops, the frame and the tank are reliably protected by our limiters, which are supported at a suitable, stable point on the frame at maximum steering angle, and they reduce the risk of damage! They limit and dampen the steering angle in the event of a falling over or a fall by means of their large rubber blocks, even before the standard steering stops are reached with full force. The material properties of the limiters are selected in such a way that the impact damping is initially soft and becomes progressive as the steering angle increases. They absorb the impact energy, protect the original steering stops and reduce the risk of bending or breaking the standard steering stop.

Of course, in the event of a crash, the limiters also create space for hands and forearms and reduce the risk of jamming.

For technical reasons, the protective function requires a slight reduction in the steering angle, which is inconspicuous in everyday use. Of course, the function of the steering lock is not affected.

Mounting the two steering stop limiters is very simple: they are first attached to the fork legs with a concealed, high-quality 3M adhesive tape and then attached with a robust cable tie that fits inconspicuously into the circumferential groove provided for this purpose.
